March 8, 2019

Dear Parent/Guardian and Community,

The School District of Gilman takes concerns regarding student safety seriously.  It is our mission for students to feel safe physically, mentally, and emotionally, take pride in their accomplishments, and enjoy coming to school.

On Wednesday, March 6, 2019 we received a report from a parent and two students that felt their classmates were making bullying and intimidating comments.  Many of our staff are parents and can relate with parents/guardians when they share concerns regarding the safety and well-being of their children.

This is an active investigation regarding students and no further comments regarding this specific incident can be made at this time.  With that said, any and all forms of bullying will not be tolerated in the School District of Gilman. We encourage individuals to inform staff immediately when bullying behavior is witnessed.  We also do not tolerate any forms of retaliation by individuals accused of such behavior.

The School District of Gilman is proactive in creating a positive and supportive school environment.  We conduct annual school assemblies on positive relationships and anti-bullying. We have District and school policies prohibiting bullying.  We also have deployed an app called StopIt to provide a resource to individuals to anonymously report their concerns when they are unsure of where to turn.  Even with taking a proactive approach and having consequences for bullying and intimidating actions, it is the actions of one or two individuals that have a significant impact on others.   We will continue to take every concern seriously and actively deter bullying and intimidation. Most importantly, we will continue to support those who feel bullied and intimidated. If you have any questions please contact the School District of Gilman District Office at 715-447-8211.

Thank you,

Jon Hess, Principal
